One of the NY Times’ most popular blogs is Frugal Traveler: Seeing the World on a Budget. Authored by Seth Kugel, the Frugal Traveler blog seeks first-class living at steerage prices. Just this week Frugal Traveler posted about the benefits of using travel agencies like Travel Destinations, Inc., instead of the Internet to book travel. Below is the article, which points out that travel agencies “bested the Internet big boys on both price AND service nearly every time”!

Cruises these days are definitely giving diners more options! Gone are the days when your only choices were the Dining Room, Lido Buffet, and the Poolside Grill. Most of the ships have at least one signature restaurant. Yes, there is a charge for eating there, but if you enjoy good food, it is usually worth it. While on board the Zuiderdam, we have taken part in a couple of food/wine pairing opportunities.
The first was in their Culinary Arts Center with the Chef cooking for us while we ate. It was great so we decided to try the 8-course food/wine

Ahhhh, the joy of sea days!
There is nothing like a sea day early on in the trip to get your relaxation on. After sleeping in (something I never do at home), Bruce and I decided to start the day with a nice walk. A couple of miles should be validation enough to then start eating again, right? We wandered upstairs for a late breakfast on the back of the boat. Then, it was decision time…what to do for the day.

Leaving the rain behind in Ft. Lauderdale, we arrived at Half Moon Cay early the second day. This is Holland America’s private island. Our ship, the Zuiderdam, and another were the only two in for the day.
I am really glad we ventured over to the island

A US retailer has come up with the perfect solution for the jet-setter with a deadline – a suitcase that converts into a scooter. Hammacher Schlemmer has unveiled The Only Scootercase, which combines the normal space offered by a hand luggage-sized suitcase with 4-inch in-line skate wheels built into the bottom.
The case also features a footboard that can be folded out allowing riders to propel themselves through airports while holding on to the telescoping handle. The Only Scootercase is perfect for computers with a laptop compartment and storage slots for documents, shoes and even your lunch.
Users propel themselves along by pushing with one foot and steering by shifting their weight. “The Only Scootercase has the same storage capacity as a traditional carry-on suitcase with the added benefit of providing a fun, faster way to reach a destination.”

Now is the time to start planning your Alaskan cruise, where Mother Nature is at her awe-inspiring BEST! Our private verandas offer you ever-changing views of floating glaciers and soaring eagles.
You can even pick up some extra family members if you go! Here’s my family in 2007 on our trip to Alaska. Since then my family has grown. We have added two more kids and a Yorkie, but no bears or moose.
Alaska is a family adventure you’ll never forget!
